> study abroad in chile

Chile is a country with a rich history and culture. Located in the southern tip of Southamerica, this young country was always thought of having strong democratic institutions which differentiated it from other Latinamerican countries. However, the military coup of 1973 and the 17 years long dictatorship that ensued  put an abrupt and dramatic end to such a view.

Today, 15 years after the return to democracy, the country has experienced  profound changes in the economic, social and cultural fields. It is hailed as an economic and political success. Having overcome a long period of dictatorship, the country embarked upon a transitional process that, by and large, has provided internal stability and attracted international praise. Chile’s economy has grown steadily in the past few years and the country has signed several Free Trade Agreements and is fully integrated into the world economy.

However, Chile is a country with one of the worst income distribution in the world. Inequality seems to be an integral part of the Chilean social and economic model.

Also, the country continues to be deeply divided as regards its evaluation of its recent past, specially because justice has not been accomplished in relation to human rights violations by the military.

Chile claims to be a modern country, however, it has been unable to solve many fundamental issues: poverty, women’s rights and the rigths of the more than 10 indigenous peoples that inhabit the country, amongst many others.

It is within this general context that we offer two study abroad programs specially designed for foreign students:
