Course structure

Students will usually have 2-3 classroom sessions at the University and 1 field trip activity a week. Both, classes and field trips usually take place in the morning. All classes are in English and while on an excursion you will always have an interpreter with you.

Spanish Classes take place in the afternoon twice a week. There is a placement test at the beginning of the semester in order to establish your class level.

Room and Board information

There are several lodging alternatives available, these include:
• Sharing an apartment with other students on the same course
• Living with a Chilean family
• Staying at a “residencial” – this is a small hostel where you share a bathroom and a kitchen with other lodgers, usually they are Chilean or foreign students
• Renting your own apartment and living by yourself.

The cost of the various alternatives will depend on the alternative and geographical location that you choose, however, our experience tells us that rent normally amounts to around US$ 350 a month.

Maintenance

The average maintenance cost rises to about US$ 600 a month. This should cover your inner-city transport, utilities, food and rent.

Other travel within Chile is not included in this calculation so you should budget extra if you intend to travel.

Currency

The Chilean peso is the official currency. The exchange rate is 1dollar = 500 pesos. The exchange rate varies daily.
